  Distinguished Figures and Faculty of Kharazmi University
Kharazmi University, as one of Iran's historic and reputable universities, is proud to have nurtured and introduced influential figures who have left a lasting impact on Iranian and global society through their academic, cultural, and social contributions. Over the years, this university has been home to esteemed scholars, scientists, and intellectuals who have expanded the boundaries of knowledge and educated future generations. Below, we highlight some of these impactful figures who have left a lasting legacy on the university and the academic community.
University Luminaries
The renowned individuals from Kharazmi University have significantly contributed to promoting and developing various sciences and arts in Iran. The most prominent figures of the university are introduced below:
  • Dr. Gholamhossein Mosahab: A distinguished Iranian mathematician and encyclopedist known as the "Father of Modern Mathematics in Iran" for his extensive work in promoting new mathematics. In October 1966, he established the Institute of Mathematics at the then-Teacher Training University (now Kharazmi University) with the approval of the Central University Council. This institute, aimed at training math educators for Iranian universities, graduated over 70 math lecturers and housed a unique specialized library. In 1984, the institute began admitting students for advanced programs, and in 1997, it was renamed the Dr. Gholamhossein Mosahab Institute of Mathematical Research in his honor.
  • Dr. Abdolazim Gharib: A contemporary literary scholar and founder of modern Persian grammar, who began teaching Persian language and literature at Kharazmi University from its inception.
  • Dr. Abdolkarim Gharib: A prominent scientist and the “Father of Iranian Geology,” who joined Kharazmi University (then Daneshsara-ye-Ali) as an associate professor in 1954 and continued teaching until he achieved full professorship. He retired in 1969, having published over 45 books and 160 articles, leaving an indelible mark on Iranian science. He passed away on February 6, 2003.
  • Parvin Etesami: A renowned Iranian poet who served as the library director at Kharazmi University (then Teacher Training University) during 1936 and 1937, under Dr. Isa Sadiq’s presidency.
  • Jalal Al-e-Ahmad: A prominent Iranian writer and intellectual who studied Persian literature at Kharazmi University (then Daneshsara-ye-Ali) and later became one of the leading figures in Iranian literature and social criticism. His notable works, such as The School Principal and Westoxication, reflect his cultural and social concerns.
Enduring Figures
Kharazmi University’s “Enduring Figures” are some of the nation’s most distinguished scientific elites who have achieved significant contributions in various scientific fields. These individuals were honored at the “Enduring Figures Festival” as pioneers in their respective fields, securing a prominent place in the academic and scientific communities. Kharazmi University takes pride in being among the universities with the highest number of enduring figures among its faculty. Below are some of these remarkable figures and their achievements:
 
  1. Dr. Ali Shariatmadari: A prominent figure in psychology and educational sciences in 2002.
  2. Dr. Ahmad Majd: A distinguished figure in biology in 2004.
  3. Ayatollah Dr. Seyed Mohammad Mousavi Bojnordi: A prominent figure in law in 2005.
  4. Dr. Shahrbanoo Aryan: A prominent figure in biology and leading female researcher in 2005.
  5. Dr. Shokouh Navabi Nejad: A prominent figure in psychology and educational sciences in 2008.
  6. Dr. Alireza Madgalkachi: A prominent figure in mathematics in 2010.
Highly Cited Researchers from Kharazmi University in the World’s Top 2%
The Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC) has released a list of the top Iranian researchers with the highest citations globally. Known as the "Stanford University List," this report is based on the latest findings from a joint Elsevier project and Stanford University researchers, using Scopus database analysis. The method, incorporating a set of standardized citation metrics, calculates a "composite citation index" to evaluate the citation impact of researchers across scientific fields. This index includes total citations received, authorship position, and the h-index.
In the latest update, the citation performance of researchers based on their publications has been evaluated in two timeframes — from 1996 to 2023 and the recent year 2023 — across 22 main subject areas and 174 sub-disciplines.
