Founded in 1918 as the Central Teacher Training Institute, Kharazmi University has developed significantly over the past century, adapting to modern educational and research needs. Today, the university operates with two campuses, one in Tehran and the other in Karaj, providing extensive infrastructure that supports advanced learning and research. This section introduces the facilities and infrastructure at Kharazmi University that play a key role in enhancing the quality of education and research.

Library

The strategic mission of the Central Library, Museum, and Documentation Center at Kharazmi University is to gather and disseminate educational and scientific resources to support the university’s educational and research programs. These centers perform various functions, offering access to a vast array of scientific resources and information, and supporting the university's academic and cultural activities.

Functions of the Central Library, Museum, and Documentation Center

  • Collect and organize scientific resources in both print and digital formats.
  • Disseminate information on library, museum, and documentation activities through multiple channels.
  • Participate in national information-sharing projects and resource-sharing programs.
  • Automate library processes to facilitate the storage and retrieval of information.
  • Provide a platform for interaction with international information systems.
  • Educate visitors to ensure optimal and effective use of resources.
  • Collect and document objects, artifacts, audiovisual materials, and documents related to the university’s history and activities.
  • Preserve and safeguard the university's academic and educational artifacts and values.
  • Display and introduce collected documents both periodically and permanently.
  • Conduct ongoing research to study and introduce the resources and documents available.
  • Organize educational events in alignment with the university's goals and mission.
Kharazmi University’s library facilities are located on both campuses in Tehran and Karaj and have been gradually equipped with modern tools and technologies. Originally organized under the Dewey classification system, the library transitioned to the Library of Congress Classification (LC) system in 2002. The library services are fully digitized, utilizing the comprehensive SANA library software to provide electronic services.

Tehran Campus Library

Initially located in the Parvin E'tesami building, the Tehran Campus Library was moved to its new location on the first floor of the Faculty of Literature and Humanities in 2015. Spanning 370 square meters, the library holds approximately 70,000 resources, with new materials added regularly. Currently, there are four faculty libraries in Tehran: the Financial Sciences Library, the Management Library, the Economics Library, and the Dr. Mosahab Institute of Mathematical Research Library.

Karaj Campus Library

The Karaj Campus Library initially operated in the administrative building but was relocated to a new six-story building in 2016, covering an area of 7,250 square meters. Each floor is dedicated to specific library sections, as follows:
  • Ground floor: Thesis and dissertation section and study hall for male students.
  • First floor: Loan and reference section for Persian and foreign books.
  • Second floor: Study hall for female students.
  • Third floor: Conference hall.
  • Fourth floor: Administration, cataloging, and discussion rooms.
The Karaj Campus Library houses around 150,000 information resources, with new additions regularly enhancing the collection.

University Museum

As the first higher education institution in Iran, Kharazmi University has played a pivotal role in the country’s scientific and academic development since its founding. The Kharazmi University Museum narrates a century-long history of higher education in Iran. Through displays of clothing, artifacts, photographs, oral histories, and documents, the museum illustrates the journey of Iranian higher education from the establishment of the Central Teacher Training Institute to today’s Kharazmi University. It honors esteemed scholars and educators, such as Dr. Mohammad Baqer Houshyar, Mohammad Mo'in, Asadollah Beizhan, Professor Mosahab, and Isa Sadiq, who pioneered modern academic disciplines in Iran.
The museum is located on the second floor of the historic Parvin E'tesami building at the university’s central campus in Tehran. Its legacy encompasses more than artifacts, documents, and historic architecture; it preserves the memories and contributions of those who devoted their lives to knowledge and education. This collection stands as a source of pride for the Iranian community, symbolizing the nation’s dedication to scientific and cultural advancement.

Sports Facilities at Kharazmi University

Kharazmi University is committed to supporting the physical and mental well-being of its students by providing diverse and comprehensive sports facilities on both the Tehran and Karaj campuses. These facilities, equipped with advanced sports amenities and offering a range of spaces for both individual and team sports, create an ideal environment for students to develop their physical skills and foster social interactions. Designed to be accessible to all students, both male and female, Kharazmi University's sports infrastructure encourages active participation in physical activities.

Sports Facilities on the Karaj Campus

  • Cycling Track (for female students) and Sports Field: Located on the Karaj campus, these spaces are ideal for student training sessions and sports competitions.
  • Shahid Eidizadeh Hall and Neshat Hall: Multi-purpose halls designed to accommodate both team and individual sports.
  • University Swimming Pool: A large, fully equipped pool available for swimming, training, and hosting various educational courses and activities.
  • Fitness Station for Female Dormitory: A dedicated fitness area for female students, located at the female dormitory on the Karaj campus.
  • Athletics Track and Natural Grass Field: These facilities cater to track and field athletes and football enthusiasts, providing a safe, natural environment for sports.
  • Beach Soccer and Beach Volleyball Courts (separate courts for male and female students): Designed for beach sports, offering spaces for competitions and student practices.

  • Pahlevanan Sports Complex: One of the most comprehensive sports complexes on the Karaj campus, this facility supports various training sessions and competitions.

  • Shahid Mofatteh Multi-purpose Hall: Available to Tehran campus students for a variety of indoor sports and competitions.
  • Energy Martial Arts Hall (for female students): A specialized hall for martial arts and self-defense training, offering a safe and professional environment for female students.

 Kharazmi University Counseling Center

The Kharazmi University Counseling Center, with branches on the Tehran and Karaj campuses, is dedicated to enhancing students' mental health and psychological well-being. Established in 1992 on the Karaj campus and in 2013 on the Tehran campus, the center has, since 2015, been managed by Dr. Javad Kavoosian and operates according to the protocols and guidelines set by the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology.

Goals of the Counseling Center

The Counseling Center at Kharazmi University aims to support students in maintaining a healthy and vibrant lifestyle by offering assistance across various psychological and educational areas. Its key objectives and programs include:
  • Promoting Healthy Lifestyles: Collaborating with faculty and university administrators to introduce the elements of a healthy lifestyle and offer practical solutions to achieve it.
  • Enhancing Mental Health and Student Well-being: Through practical workshops and constructive engagement with other university departments, the center helps maintain and promote students' psychological well-being.
  • Identifying and Supporting Students with Psychological Challenges: Providing specialized and effective services for students facing psychological difficulties.

The university’s research centers and institutes include:
  • Water Research Institute: Dedicated to advancing research in water-related fields, including groundwater resources, water management, soil and water pollution, as well as legal and economic issues related to water resources. With specialized groups in hydrology, water risk management, and new water technologies, the institute offers consultancy and scientific collaboration services.
  • Cultural Studies Center: This center conducts research in cultural and social fields and provides strategies to support cultural development.
  • Plasma Research Center: Specializing in plasma physics, this center explores industrial and research applications of plasma and develops new technologies in this field.
  • Institute for Educational, Psychological, and Social Research: Focused on educational and social psychology research, this institute supports studies in these critical areas.

  • Center for Laboratory Animal Breeding and Maintenance: This facility provides specialized animal housing and breeding services to support research in life sciences, offering resources in biochemistry, physiology, and related fields.
